Reza Montasari

Dr. Reza Montasari BSc (Hons) MSc PhD FHEA CEng MIET MCSFS is a Senior Lecturer in Cybersecurity in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Huddersfield and is co-leading the Centre for Cyber Security. In 2012 and 2013 respectively, he obtained a BSc (Hons) in Multimedia Computing (with a 2:1) and an MSc in Computer Forensics (with Distinction) both from the University of South Wales. Following this, in 2016, he gained his PhD in Digital Forensics. Dr. Montasari is also a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Member of Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), and a Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (MCSFS).

Dr. Montasari’s primary research interests focus on Digital Forensics and Cyber Security and covers aspects such as Internet of Things (IoT) Forensics, Drone Forensics, Data Recovery, Digital Investigation, Digital Forensic Process Models, Law, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Ethical Hacking.  Dr. Montasari is a prolific publisher of many peer-reviewed research papers and currently, he is completing a co-edited Springer book entitled “Digital Forensic Investigation of Internet of Things Devices – Overarching Challenges, Solutions, Forensic Acquisition and Forensic Analysis”, to which leading researchers from prestigious Digital Forensics and Cyber Security research groups throughout the US and Europe have contributed chapter contributions.

Dr. Montasari has extensive experience in the design and delivery of academic programmes and has taught on multiple Digital Forensic and Cyber Security modules as well as advanced front- and backend programming modules. He has also designed new Digital Forensics and Cyber Security modules at under- and post-graduate levels and has recently developed a new Master’s degree in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics. This is currently undergoing the validation process and is due to start from September 2020. To date, Dr. Montasari has supervised to completion numerous Undergraduate and Postgraduate students’ projects as first supervisor and has examined two internal Post-Graduate Research students. He has also acted as the External Panel Member for Re-validation of Postgraduate Computer Forensics and Security at Leeds Beckett University.

Outside of academia, Dr. Montasari serves as a Programme Committee Member and is a frequent reviewer for various International Journals, as well as serving on the Programme and Organising Committees for various reputable International Conferences. Dr. Montasari recently chaired three tracks at 12th International Conference on Global Security, Safety & Sustainability 2019 in London, UK, and was invited as an expert to present at the College of Policing and The Investigator Spring National Digital Media Investigator’s (DMI) Conference 2019 in Oxford, UK. Furthermore, Dr. Montasari has also been invited to provide his expertise to Leeds Channel 4 Current Affairs and act as a Panel Member of the West Yorkshire Police Cyber Independent Advisory Group. Previously, he has also worked with the Cheshire Police Headquarter High Tech Crime Unit, South Wales Gwent Police High Tec Crime Unit, Cardiff Apex Chambers law firm, and the Northern Chancery Bar Association and the North West Partnership and Exchange Chambers.
